FASHION NOTES.
An evening dress recently seen, which was sleeveless according to the popular fashion, had a narrow silk cord attached to one shoulder and hanging free over both sides of the arm. At each end of the cord were jewelled "handles," which completed the illusion that the wearer of the gown was using a skipping rope as an ornament! After a long period of doing without pockets! we now have such large ones on our outdoor coats that each hip is entirely covered by them. In fact, these pockets may truthfully be described as "hip satchels." It is novel but not really successful, the new suit which consists of a skirt and coat having nothing in common in colourings, material or trimming. The wearer might forgive her uninitiated friend who suggested that she had taken the wrong garments from her wardrobe. To be really fashionable now you must wear "zoological" clothes; That is, if you want to create an effect, you will choose an evening cloak showing a design of large elephants stamping through a forest, or a navy frock which has for ornament an enormous reptile worked in bright green silk and writhing down the entire front of the dress.
