Massey, who is on a visit, to Southland, has met ■with an extraordinarily fine reception. On Saturday he was met by the Mayor of Invercaxgill and leading people of., the province, and tendered a public reception, some thousands attending and listening with rapt attention to what .he had to say with regard to the conditions existing in the country, and the satisfactory financial prospects. Mr. Massey was repeatedly cheered, and nothing happened which could possibly be construed into a discordant note. •' . V Cordiality and enthusiasm reigned, and the general opinion of those who witnessed the reception 'was that Mr. • • Massey's worth as a statesman was. recognised, and that the people were anxious to..demonstrate this.. . f"fvr'Subsequently Mr. Massey opened the football season, and than inspected Sandy Point Domain, where afforestation : work is in progress. -? r pis <•" On Sunday afternoon Mr. Massey • unveiled the war memorial at Bluff. On Monday he will deliver a policy speech at Winton.
