CRIMEAN VETERAN DEAD.

Another of the fast-diminishing band of Crimean veterans has- passed away in the person of Edgar Henry Jenkins. Mr. Jenkins, whcJ was born in 1836, was among the first to answer the call when the Queen asked for volunteers to go to the Crimea. •He joined up with the Royal Artillery, and was rated as master gunner. When his regiment arrived in the Crimea it took part in the siege of Sebastopol, but was ordered away to another sector shortly. before the fatal day of Balaclava. i While in Scutari, Mr. Jenkins -often met Florence Nightingale. In civil life Mr. Jenkins was- an organ builder. He built and erected many of the instruments which are at present in use' in Christchurch. and also built instruments for Dunedin, Wanganui, Gisborne, and Wellington, besides repairing and enlarging many others. ;
