OCEAN GREYHOUNDS.

ONE FOR NEW ZEALAND MOTOR-SHIP CONSTRUCTION. A. and N.Z;, LONDON, Feb. 21. Lloyds' list draws attention to the fact that lien motor passenger steamers are now under construction in European shipyards, eight of which exceed 10,000 gross tonnage. Five of these are building in the United Kingdom, and ought to have been completed by the summer, but have been delayed owing to the boilennakers' strike. They are unlikely to be ready till early in 1925. Probably the first to be completed will be a Hamburg-South American liner — 10,000-tonncr, which is being built at Hamburg to carry 500 first and secondclass passengers and 1500 third-class passengers. She will have a speed of 13£ knots. The next to be completed will be the Aorangi for the Union Steam Ship Company of New Zealand. Her gross tonnage will be 22,000, and she will maintain a 17-knot service between Vancouver and New Zealand. Messrs. Harland and Wolff arc building three 22,000-tonners, two lor the Royal Mail Company and another for the Union Castle line. The Aorangi is being built for the Union Company by the Fairfield Company of Newcastle. She will be 600 feet long with 72 feet of beam. Her four Sulzer engines will develop 13,000 li.p., and she is expected to be able to do 18 knots. The Union Company is also having built a 12,000 tons motor-ship to trade between the United Kingdom and Australia. She will be fitted with the mast modern devices for meat carriage.
