THE YACHT SQUADRON
ANNUAL OCEAN RACE. The Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron will hold its annual ocean race to-day, starting oil the King's Wharf at 2.45 p.rn. The entries are:—Prize, Waitangi, Rawene, Victory, Moana and Windward. The course is from starting line, through the Motutapu-Motuihi passage, round Bird Rock (one mile south of Elephant Cove), thence jv>und Cnnofe Rock, off Kawau, thence through Tiri and RakinoMotutapu passages to Matiatia, finishing between northern point of the bay and launch Avis, distance 81 miles. Yachts mast keen channel side of all fairway marks. The skippers of competing boats will he ,requited to take the time of rounding the various marks and to hand same to the timekeeper at the finish of th<* race. The handicaps will be declared at 11 a.m. to-Hay. The officers for the day will be Messrs. •T. H. Fraler, 0. Deery, and W. A. Carrie. DEVONPORT YACHT CLUB. The Devonport Yacht Club's regatta and aquatic sports, which take place today, promises to be a great success. The programme is a very interesting one, all classes of sport being catered for, including sailing and speed boat races, rowing, dinghy and whaleboat events. There will also be a fire brigade demonstration and a comic football match. The carnival will ,«?e continued in the evening, when numerous attractions will be provided. The folowing entries have been received in addition to those already published: —• Launch race (to start at 2.20 p.m.)— Romance 11., scr.; Miss Alberta, 3£m. : Oreti, 13m. ; Sylvester, 18£ m.; Nairobi, 19£ m.; Irene May, 21m.; Muzzletov, 25m. Speed Boats, to start at 4 p.m.—Miss Devonport, scr.; Don, 74m. Course for both races, from .starting line between starter's . launch and mark, moored south, round mark moored south of schooner Tangaroa, off Stanley Bay. thence round Resolution buoy, thence round Bastion light beacon, finishing at starting line, keeping all rounding marks on port hand. Twenty-six footers.—Awatere, 9m. Twenty-two footers.—Varuna scr. ; WayWard, 7m. N class.—Rotia scr.; Desert Gold l|m. Queen March will not be a competitor in this class. PONSONBY CIItJISING CLUB. The Ponsonby Cruising Club's annual regatta will he held next Saturday. The events are open to all boats and record entries are anticipated. The prize list is a very liberal one. The first prize for classes A and B is £10, for C and E £7, II I and L £6 10s, N £5, and tho remainder of the clases £4, with the ex ception of Z. which is £2. The launches are also well catered for, the first prize for boats over 9£ knots being five cases of benzine, and for those under 9£ knots £4. Entries close next Tuesday.
