DEFINITION OF AMATEUR.
RULE REGARDING OARSMEN. AN AMENDMENT SOUGHT. [BY TK.BCJUPH.—PR3S3 ASSOCIATION.] CKRISTCHURCH. Friday. The constitution ,of the New Zealand Rowing Association is very strict in its definition of amateur oarsmen. Section 1 of the constitution says that '■ " An amateur oarsman or sculler is one who has never entered or competed lor a stake or money prize, a stated bet or declared wager, v in any branch of athletic' sport" ~,: The : Canterbury Rowing Association considers that the constitution is too drastic and intend to attempt to get the last six words deleted. At a meeting ef the Canterbury Association ,Ms. ; F. :• D. .Sesseven pointed out there was a large cumber of young max keen on aH sport,. It was . ridiculous to bar such youths from amateur rowing if perchance thay could ride a little and had competed in cyclo road or track races for' which, money prizes wore given. One could not expect a youth to be a rower only. :■ *-' '■-'■■' " , ; i . ;': .;■" ' : : " '-■'■' '
