A.. Young, S.M., in the Hamilton Magistrate's Court to-day. Accused was charged with stealing £6, the property ■' of Miss Woolley, of To Awamutu. ' According to the evidence, Brown . en- i tered Miss Woolley's restaurant and, while her back was turned, stole the money from the till. He was later arrested in an outhouse, where the money was found concealed on top of a tank. Accused was admittedly very intoxicated at the time. He appealed to the : bench to send him to Roto Roa Island. The magistrate said that if accused went to the island he would not be com- , polled to do any work, and it was work , he needed, to get the drink out of his sys- • . tern. Reformatory treatment would be ; the best. ] Accused: That is no good, Your Wor- j ship. They do not reform a man. I would sooner have hard labour. His Worship ordered accused reforma- , tive treatment for a period of two years. ,
