FALL FROM VERANDAH.

WHANGARES MAN HURT.

[NX TELEGRAPH.—OWN co-respondent.] WHANGAEEI. Monday. An accident occurred to an employee of the Whangarei Borough Council, Mr. John William Forsyth, shortly after 6 p.m. on Saturday. He had a remarkably fortunate escape from instant death through falling off a verandah.

After tea Mr. Forsyth walked out upon the upper verandah at his boarding house. From where he stood the distance to the ground was about 24 feet. Suddenly some of the other boarders seated on the lower verandah were horrified to see him falling head first to the garden below. He then rolled on to the concrete path. When picked up Mr. Forsyth was bleeding profusely from wounds in the forehead and a broken nose. He was unconscious.

Dr. Good was summoned and after rendering first aid he ordered Mr. Forsyth's removal to the hospital. It is surmised that the injured man lost his balance when leaning over the balustrade to speak to someone below, or that lie had been seated upon the rail when he toppled over backwards. So far he has not recovered sufficiently .to give an account of what really happened.
