A number of girls were sitting on the rocks on the seashore when an unusually large wave swept one of them, Matekino Pineahi, from her seat, and she was quickly carried to sea. W. Pairama, 18 years of age, flung off some of his clothes and plunged in to the rescue. Ho secured the girl, but the two were several times submerged and carried further out. With the help of bystanders they finally regained the shore.
