Miss Townlev, who arrived from England bv the Ruahine, is staying at Government House. Her marriage to Commander G. Stanford will take place at St. Mary's Pro-Cathedral to-morrow. Miss Lorna Leatnam, who visited England in company with her uncle, Mr. J. L. R Bloomfield, returned on Monday by the Ruapehu. Miss Cato and Miss Tristam, of Napier, who have been on a trip to England, returned by the same boat. The marriage has been arranged., and will shortly take place, of Miss Phyllis E Alexander, younger daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Alexander, Auckland, to Mr Trevor R. Bloomfield, only son of Mr. J. L. R. Bloomfield.

SUMMER CAMP FOB GIRLS. Y.W.CA. HOSPITALITY. HOLIDAY FOB THE AILING. A summer camp for girls has been arranged by .the' Auckland Y.W.0.A., and the organisers hope to.be able to assist girls who have been ill to take a holiday there during January. The association has been fortunate in obtaining a very comfortable home at HSllsborough, on the Manukau, together with the added advantages of an orchard and table garden, cows, and' hens, so that the girls will have" the best of fresh country food. ;„_• , The camp is situated on the edge of a cliff about three minutes "walk from the water, thus combining the delights of country and seaside. It is ', situated snfficieiitly near to the cify for business girls to use it as a summer hostel, travelling beck and forth* to the city each day. The camp will he open on December 24, and remain open until the . end of January, all girls being ■eligible, for ad-, mission whether 'X- members of' the Y.W.C.A. or not. The tariff will be exceedingly moderate, and special arrangements will be made for girls wishing to c<wne to business every day. ; The camp will provide good, wholesome fare, but girls at the seaside are apt to develop abnormal appetites, and for this : reason Che association will gladly welcome donations of fruit and vegetables, jam, plum puddings, cakes and eggs. Donations toward giving holidays to girls who have been, ill will also be gratefully Received, the association wishing to help as. many cases as possible in this way. ' Many . Auckland girls are "baching" or living in boarding houses, and without fliis generous assistance, will be unable to take the holiday which their emfeebled health demands.

" HOME NURSING." MOST USEFUL VOLUME. A most useful little volume entitled "Home Nursing " by Isobel Haresnape, N.Z-R.N., has jus£ been issued by the Unity Press, Auckland. The book sets _ forth in simple terms' the principles of ifi;k-room routine, the general treatment of infectious diseases, : emergency treatment in cases of, accident and gives also some useful notes on food values, invalid cookery, and died for certain diseases. • There is nothing technical nop difficult to understand in the hook; it ie the kind of volume that will prove invaluable to women in isolated places, and to mothers who may at any moment be called upon to take the part of nurse to husband, children, ,or neighbour. Ignorance in emergency cases not infrequently ends in loss of life, and it is against such tragedies as this that ■ this handly little volume gives protection. It aims at being a book of treatments, and how to perform them, giving minute instructions, so that a person' with no training in nursing can get a good working knowledge by merely following the instructions given. \. ; -, ..... CHRISTMAS AT THE Y.W.C.A. During the past week Christmas festivities have been the order of the day, and the girls' and senior department clubs have in soma form or other sought to give pleasure to others less fortunate than themselves. Some have given picnics to children; others have had parties held in the Y.W.C.A. building, and the girls have laid themselves out to entertain their little fuests and to give gifts. The Christmas 'ree, which has been set up in the lounge hall, is receiving quite a number of toys, which will be seat to children in orphanages and in the back blocks, and also some useful gifts that will go to mothers. The immigration committee is making special preparations for looking' after overseas girls. One of the members of the committee is throwing open her own home on Christmas Day itself, so that any girl from Great Britain or anywhere overseas who is free on that day may find a welcome at tea time and spend a happy evening in a home. Already many girls have accepted this invitation, and a merry evening is being looked forward to.
