FILIPINO DISCONTENT.
APPEAL TO WASHINGTON.
COLD HEARING GIVEN.
Australian, and N.Z. Cable Association. (Reed. 4.30 p.m.) WASHINGTON, Dec. 15. The request for independence for the Philippine Islands was presented to-day for the first time to the Coolidge Administration. A mission of Filipinos presented resolutions adopted by the Philippine Legislature, asking (for the recall of the Gov-ernor-General, General Leonard Wood, for a guarantee that autonomy promised under the Jones Act would be granted, and for final determination of the form of Government of the islands. The President, Mr. Coolidge, received the resolutions, but,made no statement. Before the conference, Mr. Coolidge let it be known that the Administration firmly supported General Wood, and that it would favour complete autonomy as soon as the United States was assured that the people of the Philippines were entirely capable of self-government.
