FRANCE AND BRITAIN.
MILITARY CONVENTION. CONSCRIPTION NOT SOUGHT. Australian and N.Z. Cable Association. . (Reed. 6.5r. p.m.) .;>. "V PARIS. Dec. 8. In the Chamber of .Commerce, M. Poih-. care denied that France ever sought from Britain such a guarantee or pact as -would .involve-^ conscription in that country. "We only asked for the re-establishment of agreements which existed before the war," said the Premier. , ',':■'?. M. Claussat interjected: If those agreements had been published, perhaps there would have been no war. ' M. Poincare: You -are right; I wrote myself to the King of England asking that those agreements should be made' known. What we want is That the general staffs of both countries reach an agreement on the text of a military convention, defining clearly the importance of the eventual help they are willing to give each other. I hope the British Government will soon adhere to our viewpoint. , .
