THE RANGIRIRI ROAD.
I . Sir, —Last Saturday I motored over the ! Rangiriris, returning next'; day by saine route. There were ruts about ISSn.;, wide ' and several -, feet long, and/ great I holes in profusion. *. It "is absolutely suicidal for an inexperienced driver to attempt these hills- • The result would probably be a broken car and bodily injury. It is an insult to the people of the, Auckland district to allow such a rr/ad to be in existence. 'As for overseas jurists, this road would be sufficient to drive them off New Zealand roads altogether. There is a bend in the road, at the Rangiriri end, that is a veritable death-trap. How much, longer are motorists, who are quite numerous in Auckland district, to put up with such, vile conditions Surely the M.P. ot Auckland Province have some power at Wellington , and can enforce action m such an important matter. I took two passengers and had difficulty in convincing them, that they were "on the main highway of the Waikato; they were quite thankful to get through safely. Why not fix a certain date, to be given out in the Herald, for interested persons to write a letter to the Acting-Prime Minister complaining; of tho inaction of the Government, all the letters to bo posted on that date so as to arrive at Wellington about the same time. There ought to be quite a mail next day. Concerted action of some kind is necessary to make the Government understand that Aucklanders want this matter to receive immediate attention. Alt. J. Pabkfii, F.C.S.
