CHAMPION SCOUT TROOP.
GREY LYNN CONGRATULATED. To celebrate the winning of the NewZealand Standard, proving the Grey Lynn troop, of boy scouts to be the champion one of the' Dominion,..a banquet was held in the Richmond Hall, nearly 90 scouts, parading for inspection. The chairman of the local executive, Mr. A. W. Daniels, inspected the troop and complimented it on its very smart appearance. He also congratulated it on its ' excellent record, and expressed the hope that the people of Grey Lynn would rally to their scoutmaster with a view to providing a larger hall for the sol© use of the boys. Scoutmaster L. C. Rasmussen stated that the troop ' had been in existence for only 3£ years. The numbers on the roll had gradually increased. At the first parade of the troop only four, boys were present, while to-day the troop numbered over 90. Referring to the loyalty of the boys, he made special mention of the senior members, and paid a high tribute to the work of his assistant, Mr. Fitzsimons", and his fellout- scoutmaster, Mr. C. Swales. A number of the senior, members had "taken warrants as scoutmasters which had undoubtedly r been -of great service to the movement. The troop held the senior position for the; past" three years, And had met with great success at the ralfes held at Hamilton, winning the championship standard ,on both occasions. / Several presentations were made. For the .most efficient scout in the junior troop, Mr. W. J. Holdsworth's trophy of a compass was presented to Leader Basil Evans, and Miss Faulder's trophy of a gold medal to Second McElroy, he having gained second place. ,j In the senior troop, leader James Beesley received Mr. Carder's trophy of a fountain pen for the most efficient and popular boy, and Mr. F .J. W. Dickson's trophy of a sheath knife for the best all-round signalling championship. Scoutmasters C. Swales, L. C. Rasmussen, and' Assistant-Scoutmaster F. Fitzimons were each presented with gifts by the troop committee as a tribute to their success. ~ Mr. W. J. Holdsworth congratulated the boys on their many successes, and urged those present to do all possible to encourage the movement. The last parade of the troop for the year is to be held next Friday evening, when the prizes won at the Hamilton rally will be presented. t . x
