PROGRESS OF SUPPLY TUNNEL

Work on the tunnel through the mountain range which separates • the Wainui and Orongorongo Valleys proceeds apace. Early on Tuesday morning the tunnellers working on the Orongorongo side heard the the first time shots fired on the Wainui side. On Friday only 100 ft. separated the working parties. Judging by recent reports received by the city engineer's department the rate of progress in both tunnels is approximately 100 ft. every week of six days, the men working three shifts of eight hours. If this progress is continued the tunnel should be pierced toward the end of February. •
