STOCKS AND SHARES.

Business was fairly brisk on the Auckland sharemarket yesterday. In Government securities War Loans, 1930 and 1938, had demand at £96 10s, sellers of the latter quoting £97. Soldiers' loan bonds were wanted at £100 10s and inscribed stock in the same loan at £100 12s 6d. New Zealand Inscribed Stock, 1938 and 1939, at £97, had inquiry at £96 10s. The 192741 issue was inquired for at £98. In banks New Zealand's, old issue, were quoted at sellers 525, buyers 51s 3d; the new issue was in demand at 60s. Nationals of New Zealand, at £6 17s, were wanted at £6 15s. For Australasias £12 15s was offered, sellers quoting £12 19s. Commercials of Australia were available at 345, and New South Wales at £40 10s. In insurances buyers of New Zealands increased from 28s 6d to 28s 9d, sellers quoting 295. South British, at 38s 9d, had inquiry at 38s. Nationals were on offer at 775. In coal Hikurangi (pref.) sold at 6d, with further demand at 3d, sellers quoting 9d. In gas Aucklands (ord.) had sale at 25s 6d, more being available at 265, buyers offering 25s 4d. The contributing issue changed hands at 3s sd, at which price there was further inquiry, sellers 3s 6d. Gisbornes sold at 14s. In miscellaneous lines business was done in National Pictures at 18s 6d. Wilsons Cements sold at 27s lid, with further offers of 27s lOd, sellers 28s. In mining Waihis were done at 295, at which figure more were offered, buyers 28s 9d. Grand Junctions were quoted at sellers 4s 3d, buyers 4s 7d. The following sales took place:—Hikurangi Coal (pref.), 6d; Auckland Gas (ord.) 25s 6d, (con.) 3s sd; Gisborne Gas 14s; National Pictures, 18s 6d; Wilsons Cement, 27s lid ; Waihi, 295. The morning call to-day has been cancelled on account of the Agricultural Show. 6
