WHEN SUMMER COMES.
v X . L_ ' TELE/ HOUSEWIFE'S CHARGE. With the prospect of long summer days ahead, of picnics and parties and home festivals, the Auckland housewife is now taking thought to the special needs of her household. This is the season when the house must look bright and fresh and attractive, when table napery must be spick and span, providing the right setting for the reunion banquets and dainty lunches and teas that are among the most attractive features of the holiday season. This is the time, in short, when it will well repay Auckland housewives to "pay a visit to Smith and Caughey's, where they will find displayed every , class of napery suited to their needs and their purse. One of the most attractive lines which this firm, renowned for many years past for its beautiful napery, is now shoeing, is its new table sets-. For smart afternoon tea and supper functions, the tablecloth has lost its vogue, the latest fashion being that of dainty - little mats and centre piece, which display to advantage the beauty of the polished table, and save the trouble of heavy laundering. The new sets are of delicately coloured linen, embroidered in the daintiest of designs, and finished with scalloped edge. They are sold either in sets, or as separate articles. Then there is also a splendid line of afternoon tea and supper cloths, of hemstitched linGn, with coloured check corners, and coloured bordered serviettes to match. . . ' Of linen-finished mats, runners, supper and tea-cloths and table-centres, there is an almost bewildering variety. Some of them are embroidered in delicate shades, others display the Crown Derby and old English willow patterns. India crochet goods, hand-made Cluny, and Maltese lace-trimmed articles —all are shown in endless array 1 at Smith and Caughey's. A special word should also be spoken with regard to the handsome bedspreads of linen, some richly embroidered, others hemstitched and edged with fine Swiss guipure lace. Whatever the housewife needs to complete her napery sets she will find to-day at Smith and Caughey's. —(Adyi.) i
