BANDITS RAID TRAMCAR.
ROBBERY AND MURDER.
An audacious daylight robbery by two armed bandits in a motor-car took plaoa " in one of the busiest quarters of Marseilles. Edntond Noguier and Jean Pad- , ovani, who -were carrying a fairy large sum of ftjoimv for the payment of tram- . way employes, were travelling on the front platform of a tramcar beside the driver when two armed men jumped, from a motor-car on to the moving tram and attacked then. Noguier was struck down with a life-preserver, and Padovani was shot before he had time to use his own revolver against his assailant. During the «hort struggle the traincar continued to travel at its ordinary ; epeed, the driver being covered by a revolver and threatened with death if he stopped. The motor-car from which the men had boarded the tram was driven. along by the side of the tramcar untilhaving seized the handbag containing the money, the robbers dropped off the plat-.: form and re-entered their car, which was driven off at full speed and disappeared before the witnesses of the affair realised what had occurred. Padovani died soon after his admission to the "hospital, but his companion was expected to recover. The police had no clue to the identity of the bandits, who must, however, have been familiar with the routine of the tramway, service, for they apparently knew in advance by what car and; on what day the fortnightly wages fund was carried.
