Bishop Lis ton was a passenger on the Main Trunk last evening. On Sunday hi will open a new Roman Catholic school at Thames. Mr. and Mrs. F. R. Gough» of Sydney who have been visiting the Western Pacific Islands, returned b v the Tofua ' and are at the Grand Hotel. ' Mr. G. T. G. Milne, of Calcutta, Messrs. H. V. Hoadley and R. J Bell, of '££ ings and Mr. and Mrs. G. M. Morris of Wellington, are at the Grand Hotel. ' Mr. S. G. Raymond, K.C., lias returned to Christchurch after an absence of soma years. He has been on a trip to Great Britain and the Continent for health reasons. Dr. Dorset, who has been doing medical duty in Apia and other parts of Samoa for the last two years has gone • to Niue as relieving medical officer for Dr. Collins, who goes on furlough for some months. Probably Dr. Dorset will come to New Zealand in February. Mr. G. Arrowamith, solicitor, of Tuakau, was admitted a barrister of the Supreme Court yesterday before Mr. Justica Stringer, on the motion of Mr. J. H. Luxford; and Mr. J. B. Ramsay, of Auck. land, was admitted a barrister and solicitor, on the motion of Mr. A., M. Gould. Mr. T. B. Strong, chief inspector of the Education Department, accompanied by Mr. J. B. Hogg, chief agricultural instructor of the Wanganni Education Board, have been paying a visit of inspection to _ schools 'in the Palmcrston North, Feilding, and Wanganui districts, in connection with the system of agricultural science instruction. Mr. R. McGillivray, of the instructional staff Department of Agriculture, who returned several weeks ago from the United Kingdom, where lie had been raking courses in agricultural colleges, has been ° appointed assistant instructor of the Otago and Southland district, to be stationed at Invercargill. Prior to his visit to the . United Kingdom he was assistant ini instructor of the Canterbury district.
