ELIMINATION OF PAIN.

NO ANAESTHETIC NEEDED.

A special treatment of the solar plexus, deadening the nerve centres and making the use of an anaesthetic unnecessary, was the feature of a remarkable operation performed at Buffalo, New York, by Dr. Hans Finsterer, of Vienna University, in the presence of a number of Buffalo surgeons. ' Chatting from time to time with the man on whom he was operating, Dr. Flnisterer is said to have . removed the patient's stomach, performed a minor operatyjn, and replaced it, the operation taking nearly two hours and the patient being fully conscious throughout. Doctors who examined the patient afterwards declared ho had suffered none of the after-effects of shock usual in important operations.
