THE VEHICULAR FERRY.
LAUNCHING THIS MORNING. DEVONPORT CO.'S NEW BOAT. The latest addition to the Devonport Stearr Ferry Company's fleet, the new traffic steamer Mollyhawk, will be launched from the skids alongside Nelson Wharf at high tide, shortly after nine o'clock this morning. The Mollyhawk is a sister ship to the Goshawk and the Sparrowhawk, which she resembles in design, although somewhat larger. Her principal dimensions nw; Length, 132 ft. over all; breadth, 33ft. ; moulded depth, 12ft. The hull and decking are of heart of kauri. She is fitted with a. propeller sft. 9in. in diameter at each end, The smaller deckhouses, j nth; which the Mollyhawk will be fitted, will allow more room for vehicles than on her sister boats. Although work was started as late as April, it is expected that the vessel will be in commission by Christmas, the decking and sheathing having -already been laid. The chief Rising operations are the completion and. erection of a deckhouse and wheel-houses, and the fitting of the boiler. '• " *"*"'""
