GOLDEN WEDDING.

MR. AND MRS. J. M. METCALFE

The golden wedding of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Metcalfe, of Roxton, Matakohe, was celebrated by a banquet and reunion gathering in the Matakohe Hall on November 20. There was a gathering of about 60 friends and relatives, over which Mr. Rodney Coates presided. Mr. and Mrs. Metcalfe have been residents of the district from pioneering times, and included in the gathering were many settlers from the surrounding districts of the Otamatea, whose friendship has extended over a period of half a century. Mr. Metcalfe came to Auckland as a lad with hi? parents in 1863. The latter settled at Matakohe, and for the past 50 years the family has been renowned throughout the district for its hospitality and kindness to fellow-settlers. In November, 1873. Mr. Metcalfe married Miss Warner, daughter of one of the early families of Auckland. Their family consists of seven sons and several grandchildren, the majority of the sons still being residents of the district. The reunion '"■gathering was of the happiest nature, the toast, " The Bride and Bridegroom," proposed by Major ,'riel, being drunk with great enthusiasm. Mr. and Mrs. Melcalfe were also the recipients of many messages of congratulation from friends outside the district.
