WELLINGTON V. AUCKLAND.
ERROR REGARDING GROUND. PLANS IN JEOPARDY. [BY telegraph.—own x correspondent.] WELLINGTON. Monday. The Wellington Cricket Association found themselves suddenly faced this evening with tho possible prospect of having to amend the long-prepared plans for the annual Auckland v. Wellington match on Boxing Day. The chairman, Mr. C. G. Wilson, said that a regrettable mistake had taken placo through • the City Council granting the use of the basin reserve to the Caledonian Society for Boxing Day, after the Wellington and Auckland=»Cricket Associations had agreed that their annual match should take place on the basin on that date. It was the first time during ten years of the agreement between the association and the City Council that the latter had not consulted tho association before Hotting the ground to anyone else. The chairman added that a letter had been written to the Caledonian Society, which used Athletic Park last year, "asking if an amicable understanding could be come to. Mr. H. J. Buck: If the council makes a bungle we have to pay for it! Just as if we made it ourselves! , . The chairman said that the Caledonian 'Society had gone to the Athletic Park last vear, as they'objected to the high charges of the City Council for the basin reserve. The Cricket Association was prepared last year to let the society have the basin, and were prepared to do it again. This year, however, the ground had been allotted by the 1 council to the society in August last, but it had not notified tho association until Novemoer 24. For two years running the City Council had humbugged them. It was decided to await a communication from the Caledonian Society before taking any further action.
NEW SOUTH WALES TEAM. Jl ' * % ARRIVING IN FEBRUARY. [BY TELEGRAPH.— CORRESPONDENT.] WELLINGTON. Mondav. Definite advice of the acceptance by the Now South Wales Cricket Association of the New Zealand Cricket Council's invitation for a team to visit New Zealand this season was received by to-day's mail from Sydney. The team will leave after the New South Wales-Victoria Sheffield Shield match at the end of January. The length of the tour will be about eight weeks from the date of sailing until the arrival back in Sydney. The New Zealand Council is to pay all the expenses and allowances for 12 players and a manger. Mr. Sydney Smight, secretary of the Australian Board of Control, refers to the action of the New Zealand Council as plucky, considering that £1900 was lost on the tour of the M.C.C. team to the Dominion last season.
