HAT OR TOQUE.
Did you ever see a woman with a managing jaw and a weather-beaten face in a "Baby-boy" hat? Did you ever see one with a large. nose and retiring chin in a poke or cloche, or a baby-faced one in. a toque ~, ii If you have done so, aid you not long to make all three play "general post" with their hats? ■•'-.. , , , , Of course, Miss Baby-fac« would look charming in anything, but she looks least charming in a toque, lor it gives her the appearance of a child " dressing up." The large-nosed woman is the most difficult to deal with. A "mushroom" or " cloche" shape is apt to shade her ©yes too much, giving her an almost sinister and predatory look, and emphasises the bridge of'the nose. .;,. On the other hand, a, toque does not provide sufficient " balance" for the nose. On the whole, most women with prominent noses will find that a large round shape, just slightly bent on each side to soften the outline miraculously shortens the nose and casts a becoming shadow over the whole face, softening the contrast; of light and shade, which is characteristic of the face with decided features. A veil adds to the softening effect if draped round the crown and allowed to droop a little roun*'. the brim. A large-featured woman can always , contrive to look dignified—in the right hat! Now for the weather-beaten, farmeress, " managing" kind of face. > The " cloche" shape was undoubtedly designed for her. '* The deep front brim counterbalances a prominent chin, and suits a broad face perfectly. • Also the broad-faced. woman' can wear 1 a toque to great advantage. The " baby-boy" hat suits only one type —that ~ is r a delicate, /small-featured, spirituelle little face, with a" perfect complexion. The girl with a round baby-face looks delightful in a " cloche." r
