FRACAS OVER A CHILD.

STEP-FATHER RUN "OVER. A case heard in the Wellington Magistrate's Court on Monday was followed by an excising fracas at Vogeltown on Thursday. It arose out of the adoption of a little girl by people who have made a good home for her, and who, according to the police, are bringing the child up in a most satisfactory manner. The mother of the child has since married, and took action in the Court on Monday to have the adoption order cancelled, which the magistrate refused. The adopting parents were about to take the child away for a two years' trip to the Old Country, and had a motor at their residence at Vogeltown to convey them to the railway station. The mother of the child arid her husband went to the house and made an attempt to seize the child. This failing, the husband threw himself in front of the motor-car, which went over him, injuring his arm, but he was otherwise unhurt. There was a melee between the "woman in tho case" and several local residents, .and all sorts of rumours are afloat about subsequent proceedings. The adopting parents, however, are now on their way to. England with their little charge. It appears that not so long ago the child was left a legacy of £100. mid this is safely in the hands of tho Public Trustee.
