EXPLOSION OF GELIGNITE.
DISASTER NEAR MELBOURNE
THREE WORKERS KILLED.
MIXING HOUSE BLOWN UP.
By Telegraph— Association— A. and N.Z. MELBOURNE, Nov. 21. Christopher Vella, P. Askew, and Fred Ingiis were killed by an explosion which occurred in the Australian Explosive Company's works at Deer Park yesterday. A large quantity of gelignite was being handled in the mixing room when thejre was a tremendous detonation. Vella and Askew ware blown to pieces, and Inglis was so terribly injured that he died without speaking. The force of the explosion was such that it shattered many windows within a radius of half a mile. The sound was heard miles' away. xAn employee named Mountsey, working close ,to the scene of the explosion, rushed in before the smoke cleared to tho assistance of Inglis, who, however, was beyond aid.
The mixing house and tons of earth which surrounded it as a protection were completely blown away, leaving a deep no'v ' '■».'.'■''.■'■''.'. • '-"
The cause of the explosion has not yet been ascertained.
