With a view of taking advantage ,of the British Government's offer of assistance • an colonial'" development schemes, made at the Imperial Economic Conference, Sir James Allen has invited Mr. Evan Parry, formerly chief engineer of Public Works in New Zealand, to formitlate a scheme by which the Arapuni electric installation could be completed in two years instead of five years, therefore enabling immediate orders to be placed for the transmission of material for substations, power plants,, etc. The scheme is also to ~ include the electrification of the Lyttelton tunnel, the completion of the Lake Coleridge undertaking, and the electrification of, the West Coast railway to Springfield.
