NEW NORMAL SCHOOL.
MT. EDEN SITE APPROVED
NEAR THE TRAINING COLLEGE.
The establishment of a Normal School adjacent to the new Training College at Mount Eden was recommended in a report by the principal of the Training College, Mr. H. G. Cousins, considered by the Auckland Education Board yesterday. : Mr. Cousins stated that he had gone fully into the matter with the Minister for Education when Mr. Parr was in Auckland recently. The point at issue was the practical training of students when the new building for the Training College came into use. It was necessary to have classes of children within easy reach of college, so that lessons :: for * observation and criticism might be given before groups of students. Thus, a normal ' school close to the college was desirable. He therefore recommended .the board to consider
the advisability ■ of, erecting a school in detached parts, consisting of' a main school, an infant department, and two model schools. If these recommendations were carried out it would probably be advisable to close ; the;present Normal School when the new one was opened The , trend of population from the ■ city to the suburbs suggested that this would be necessary, and the time" would be opportune for the change of location. Tie desirability of th* hew school King opened on. or about tho same date, March, 1925, was emphasised, by Mi. Cousins. :;f The board approved the report, a copy of which will be forwarded , tor the' department. The architect •■;<; was ? instructed to prepare '■- , a'i sketch * plan rof the .•>■ proposed school, which, on . completion, - will;, be submitted 'to the, department with 1 , a request for. a grant. -1 v
