A meeting of citizens, convened to further the cause of the'.League. of Nations, was held at the concert chamber of the Town Hall last night. The Mayor, Mr. R. A". Wright, M.P., who presided, said it would seem from the present international unrest that the world was faced with another war. The Empire - might desire peace, but was riot strong enough to maintain it. TJule&j a union of Britain and America were brought about for tho purpose, that ideal, would never be achieved. "' ? '~ r Mr. L. L. Gnimwade said the League of Nations met the desperate need of the world for a means of settling international disputes, but it could 'not function properly until America •came into it. Sir Joseph Ward said -he ' did not believe the League would prevent waif, but of properly constituted with every* country enroled, its influence, propaganda and unity of-action would at least have the effect, of delaying the commencement of war. RAvenge was a dish that . should be eaten cold. He condemned the action of Mussolini and Italy's breakaway from the League. -> '■>■'".. Sir Joseph Ward strongly supported tha proposal to send a - cable to America on behalf of New Zealand recommending the United States to assist -the cause the League of Nations. ' A resolution was adopted calling upor America to join the League-of Nations. *
