REGULATION UNDER BY-LAWS
, A repetition of the action of; a Government official in Chri6tchurch in seizing unlicensed private petrol. stocks .-.-. cannot occur in Auckland. For the last two years, the regulations have been strictly adhered to locally, and licenses have been issued in all necessary cases. > : , ■ >! :> ■ The ■> regulations ; governing the storage of petrol are included in : by-law >> 25 of the Auckland City . Council, and are practically the Government regulations. They provide that ho person shall keep or store dangerous goods in the city without first having obtained a license from the inspecting officer of the council,"' and then only to the extent : permitted ■ by - the license. No license ", is required in the case of petrol if - the quantity does not exceed 8£ gallons, and if'it is kept for private use and not for sale. /Motor spirits, however, must be kept in substantial vessels, so securely closed that neither liquid, nor vapour can escape, and all due precautions must be taken to prevent accident by fire or explosion, and escape of .dangerous goods into a,'. .sewer or drain. '.■'■- : ' / . In the city, active inspection work is carried out by the council's : nspoctor, with the result that all holders of iienzine stocks who are required to hold licenses are complying with the by-tow. The only people who may not have licenses are those who have just built garages, and have just acquired, benzine stocks. .
