OTAHUHU BOROUGH.
PARK LOAN TO BE RAISED.
The last meeting of the Otahuhu Borough Council was held in the Council Chambers on Thursday last. The Mayor, Mr. R. B. Todd, presided, and Messrs. Brady, Hall, Clements, Nicholls,* Shepherd, Whitely, and Whyte were also present.
The Mayor referred to the loss sustained by the council through the death of its pumping engineer, the late Mr. John Mills Christian. A vote of sympathy with the widow and relatives was carried in silence, the Mayor an 1 councillors standing. Mr. Whyte made the declaration as a newly elected councillor. The Parks Committee recommended the carrying out of various works in Sturges Park, and in the beach reserve; also that the paths at the Cemetery be retarred and general improvements carried out. The report was adopted The foreman recommended the erection of a more sightly building in the Cemetery in place of the present rough shed. The recommendation was adopted subject to the Parks Committee's approval/' The Mayor, as chairman of the Legal and Finance Committee, reported that the committee had completed the purchase of lot 16, Princes Street, adjoining the beach reserve, for £850, subject to the Minister for Internal Affairs approving of the terms, which provided that the purchase money should be paid by instalments extending over a term of seven years. The report was adopted. It was decided to take immediate steps to raise the park loan of £1000.
