HELENSVILLE TOWN BOARD.
MEMBERS AT VARIANCE.
REPAIRS TO A STREET. [DT TELEGRAPH.OWN CORRESPONDENT.] HELENSVILLE. Tuwday The Helensville Town Board met last evening, Mr. C. West, presiding. Considerable discussion took place concerning Gow Street. An offer of £20 had been made to the board towards repairing the street if the board would take it over. The chairman and Mr. Lambert having stated at the last meeting that at least £70 would be required to do repairs Mr. R. D. Stewart proposed and Mr. Downer seconded that the offer be refused as totally inedquate. Mr. Coutts proposed and Mr. Lambert seconded that the £20 be accepted in full payment. Mr. Coutts' proposal having been carried Mr. Stewart left the meeting as a protest against the council's action.
Mr. J. McLeod waited on the board in regard to the visit of the chairman and members of the Auckland Hospital Board to Helensville, on November 17 to consider the erection of a public hospital at the Hot Springs, Parakai. The Hospital Board, he said required an additional outlet for some of the cases and Helensville being so much nearer than Rotorua was considered an ideal place. The following tenders for the erection of a ladies' swimming bath at the Hot Springs were received :—G. Edwards, P. Taylor, £965 10s; B. Hope, £832. The matter was not finally dealt with, as the Government grant is only £760.
