There were approximately 50 bankruptcies recorded in New Zealand last month, as against 69 in October last year and 33 in October. 1921. The. insolvencies last month were, lower than in any month since June, and were 12 less t'han in the previous month. The figures for Oie first ten mouths of the present year and the two preceding years are as follow : — 1923. 1922. 1921. Farmers continue to yield the heaviest proportion of bankrupts. There were eight last month as compared with 17 in September and 19 in October last year. The principal classes contributing to the bankruptcies of the past ten months were: Farmers, 135; labourers, 47; motor trade, 33; builders, 18; j agents, 17; and hotelkeepers, 14.
