Mr. J. C. Buckingham, of London, arrived by the v Marama irom Sydney yeiterday and is at the- Royal Hotel.
Mr. W. G. Bell, inspector of machinery at Whangarci, has been appointed senioc inspector of machineiy in Christchurch.

Mr. T. Ellis lias been appointed chairman of the Whangarei Hospital Board, following the death of Mr. W. A. Kerr, the former chairman.
The Rev. E. Bishop, Presbyterian minister at Taumarunui. has resigned on account of ill-health. The resignation will take effect as from January 1.
Mr. J. Macdonald, assistant general manager of railways, returned from a visit to Sydney by the Marama yesterday, accompanied by Mrs. Macdonald. They are at the Central Hotel.
Mr. and Mrs. J. C. N. Thomas, of Gisborne, Mr.and Mrs. A. C. Davidson, of Gisborne, Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Adams, of Sydney, and Mr. and Mrs. Key, of Sydney, are at the Grand Hotel.
Dr. Raymond Kitchen, who has completed his medical course in Britain, is due to return to New Zealand early in January. He is an old boy of Wangacui College and well known in Auckland.
Mr. and Mrs. W. Bongard, of Thames, Mr. and Mrs, M. L. Tepperell, of Carterton, Mr. Hilton Burns, of Hamilton, Mr. H. E. G. Thompson, of Wellington, and Mr. .A. G. Smith, of Christchurch, are at Stonehurst.
Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Wright, of Auckland, who have been on a visit to America, the United Kingdom and the Continent, extending over nine months, returned by the Marama yesterday, having come horn* by way of Suez and Australia.
-Colonel A. OldSeld, a retired Indian Army officer, accompanied by Mrs.. Oldfield, arrived from Sydney yesterday by the Marama. They are at the Grand Hotel, but will later proceed to Rotorua, where Colonel Oldfield, who is an ardent fisherman, will devote the season to his favourite pastime.
