AUCKLAND MOTOR WEEK
EXHIBITION ON WHARF.
MANY CARS TO BE SHOWN.
ARRANGEMENTS IN- HAND
The movement toward the holding of an Olympia motor show in Auckland is well advanced. According to present strangements, the exhibition will take place approximately at the end of February. In the past, successful motor shows have been held in Christchurch, and one such event is closing in that city to-day. Wellington also has evinced its interest in motor matters in a similar way, and the exhibition held there was a notable success.
Hitherto the main difficulty about organising, on a thoroughly representative scale, such an exhibition in Auckland has been the lack of a suitable building. This difficulty has, however, been overcome. The promoters of the scheme, the Auckland Motor Trade Association, ha.ve been granted by the Harbour Board the use of one or the new ferro-concrete twofloor warehouses, now nearing completion on Prince's Wharf
The Auckland Motor Show will extend over a week, and the organisers have undertaken that half the net proceeds shall be donated to the Auckland War Memorial Fund. Incidentally, it may be mentioned that a somewhat similar undertaking was given effect to in Wellington, although in that instance the money, to the amount of about £400, was handed to the Wellington " Welcome Week" Fund. The warehouse on Prince's Wharf, which is to be utilised for the show, is approximately 325 ft. long bv 80fl;. broad, and ia admirably adapted for such purposes. The whole of the ground will be devoted to the exhibition of passengercarrying motor-cars, from small-powered " runabouts" tc touring cars of high engine power. On the upper floor will be shown various types of, commercial motor-vehicles and a wide range of accessories. As to motor fuels and lubricating oils, the anticipation ia that practically all grades of spirit and oil will be well in evidence.
The promoters estimate that at least 35 Auckland firms engaged in the motor industry will take part in the exhibition, and approximately 150 vehicles, commercial and private, will, it is understood be listed in the show. Everything possible will be done to see that the many exhibits are presented in as pleasing and interesting a manner as possible, and to this end the respective cars will be kept free from glaring advertisements. An orchestra will be one of the features of motor week, and arrangements are also being made for an adequate catering department for the supply of refreshments. 'he exhibition will be open during the daytime and also in the evenings.
