MAKING FALSE CHEQUES.

ADMISSION BY A * MAORI. [by TELEGRAPH.PRESS ASSOCIATION.] NAPIER. Monday. A young Maori named Paul Miini, was charged at tho Police Court to-day with making a false cheque for £75, purporting to De signed by one J. Pranch, intending that it should be acted upon, and also with making another false cheque for the same amount signed "A. J. Brown". The accused, who was charged with having obtained credit by means of false cheques, pleaded guilty, and was committed for sentence. It was stated in evidence that the accused represented that Pranch was the secretary of the, Land Board, and that he also represented himself as an interpreter to the board. These statements were shown by the evidence to be untrue. Nither Pranch - nor Brown had accounts at the bank.
