GIFTS TO MANGERE EAST.

PUBLIC SPIRIT RECOGNISED.

Appreciation of Mr. S. W. House's generosity in presenting a valuable area of land as a recreation ground and site for a public hall was expressed by the residents of Mangere East at a social gathering in honour of Mr. and Mrs. House. There was s largo attendance, Mr. John Clark presiding. A programme of vocal and instrumental music was given, the distinctive feature being the items rendered by a quartette of performers from the Otahuhu Orphans' Club. The chairman referred to Mr. House's public spirit in making gifts to the Mangere district of land for a p?rk and recreation ground at Mangere Central, and now another area at Mangero East for a similar purpose, the value of the two representing a very considerable sum of money. Mr. House was presented with a framed, illuminated address, expressing the district's gratitude.
