DROWNING CASE FEARED.

TWO MEN MISSING. CAPSIZE OF A BOAT. [by TELEGRAPH. —press ASSOCIATION'.] CHKISTCnURCH, Saturday. Two men, Lowthian Thompson and John Cowper, both aged 45, are believed to have been drowned by the capsize of a flat-bottomed boat at the mouth of the Waimakariri on Friday evening while going out to save the launch Celtic, which had drifted out- to sea. The men were last seen' swimming toward the launch, which was seen by the captain of the Maori early yesterdav morning near Sumner, apparently under control but with no sign of life aboard. Kaiapoi people state that they believe the men had little chanco of reaching the launch. The incoming steamers to-day saw nothing of the missing or the launch.
