THEFT OF HATS BY YOUTH. PROBATION AND RESTITUTION. The theft of 150 hats, of a total value of £30, ' was admitted by a 19-year-old youth, who appeared at the Police Court on Saturday, before Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M It was stated that accused had been employed at a hat factory, and 'about 12 months ago stole the hats, selling them in the city. He was ordered •'to make restitution, and was placed on probation for two yea's. Accused asked that his name be suppressed, and thd magistrate, in complying with the request, •said he was loath to do so. " You should have thought of that before you stole £50 worth of hats," remarked Mr. Hunt. . DRUNKENNESS AND MISCHIEF. Charges of drunkenness and committing mischief were preferred against Malcolm Mclvor, aged 32. It was stated that while accused was being placed in a taxi after being arrested for drunkenness he 'damaged ono of the side curtains. Mclvor was fined 5s and ordered to pay 18s damages and expenses, in default four days' imprisonment. AN INCORRIGIBLE ROGUE. Charles McGeahan, who made his 86th appearance, was charged with being an incorrigible rogue, and with having been found at night without lawful excuse on enclosed premises. Ho had previously been convicted of being an incorrigible rogue in May, 1922. Senior Sergeant? Rawle stated that in consequence of complaints a constable visited the premises of Mr. S. White, in Freeman's Bay, at 1.15 a.m. on Saturday, and found accused sleeping on the seat of a motor lorry. McGeahan was sentenced to six months' imprisonment. THEFT CHARGE REMANDED. . Cecil Bourko, aged 36, was remanded till next Saturday on charges of having stolen a : gold watch and chain valued at £12, the property of Alfred William Redman, and a wallet valued at ss,..the property of Alexander Lamb. Bail was allowed in one surety of £50.
