NEW FIND OF COAL.
STRIKE NEAR GREYMOUTH. SEAM 12 FEET THICK. OF GOOD, HARD QUALITY, ■'-'■ [BX TEt,EGRAPff.--PREK3.,; ASSOCIATION.] GREYMOUTH. 'Wednesday. : j ' An .important new find, of coal - ; was j made to-day at vTaylorville, about seven j miles from Greymouth and opposite fthe j site 'of ; the Dobson "coalfield. For six j weeks boring operations had .been car- | . ried '!■,'' on by the Greymouth),;:; Harbour Board;. on v whose ;- reserves the new ; seam i and that "at Dobson were both 7 . 10cated..,...,: i The seam struck to-day is at a depth , of 902 ft. "It is 12ft. thick, composed of j good hard coal upon ] a fire-clay bottom. j v ;;This find clears up several speculations.'j It had been feared there was a " down-;j throw " of 250 ft. on fthe'Tayloryille side;l of the Grey River, hut to-day's find indicates, not only that the seam on. that j side of the river "lives "at normal level despite a slight fault, but that the newfound seam ', is probably a continuation of that oh)the^^ opposiite (Dobson) side. Thus the existence of a great field of coal, from 10ft. to 20ft. in thickness, is provedby ;:' half-a-dozen bores on either side of : the Grey ■' River.' .J , V ,' \ .'
