GOVERNMENT SUB-STATION.
" Khandallah; is to be the gateway to Wellington as far as electrical power from Mangahao is; concerned. The current will comes from Mangahad along high-tension wires, with V voltage of 110,000, Khandallah a sub-station will intercept the power and reissue it to Wellington City at 11,000 watts A.C., after which it ■will be the City Council's duty to break it down to the required 230 volts hju. for lighting purposes or 600 volts D.C. for the tramways. ; # t The new Government sub-station to be erected at a cost of £13,000 will be situated on a corner block about four acres in extent at Khandallah North, and will be the first big, building fulfilling an important public, utility in Khandallah. Twenty-six' weeks is the contract tims for the work, which was commenced on Monday. . ' The sub-station will be about twice the capacity of the ' station at Addington, where the Lake Coleridge power is broken down for the use of Christchurch. .
