GERMANY WATCHING.
SMALL FAITH IN LEAGUE.
IGNORED IN REAL CRISIS.
A. and'N.Z. ' LONDON. Sept J. 5. Dr. Stresemann's newspaper, Die Zeit, discussing the question of : Germany joining the League of Nations, says "It is obvious that when incidents of real " importance arise the League is simply ignored," and that .as a matter of fact force continues the determinative factor. Germany can-hardly be expected to desire to sell herself ' body and soul .' to. such • a torso. Let us wait and see the outcome of the present conflict, ;if the League is. really an impotent creation or a body with' influence and power. If the League proves to be a toy, nations will revert to the principle of might is right-. In that case several clauses of the Treaty of Versailles must be ruled out. Germany will then be faced with the necessity of demanding the right; to arm herself' to an extent corresponding with her size."
