DRAINAGE DEBENTURES.
The Christchurch Drainage Board is inviting tenders for the purchase of .2000 debentures "of £100, each bearing interest up to "5} per cent., secured by a special rate of lid in the -*£ over an area valued at £6,500,000. and id in tho £ over an area valued at £14,500,000 in tho City of Christchurch and Suburbs.; Full particulars appear in advertisement columns of this issue.
MELBOURNE STEAMSHIP COMPANY The report of the Melbourne Steamship Company for the year ended June 30, states that tho net profits are £81,609; compared with £35,833 the previous year. The dividend is maintained at 10 per cent, on ordinary shares, and 6 per cent, on preference shares (inoluding interim dividend in each ,case), absorbing £35,560. The amount brought forward. £14,471, io thus reduced to £10,521. a Tho report states that business for the .period under review l -has not been good, while working expenses continue to increase. At'intervals some of the steamers .have been out of commission for considerable periods, owing to slackness of trade, accentuated- by the stoppage of work at .tho-Mait-•Jand coal mines.' > v : '. 1v * '
