MOUNT EDEN'S EX-MAYOR.
CHALLENGE TO OPPONENTS.
CONTEST THE ELECTION.
There was an attendance of only about 60 people at the Dominion Road Methodist Hall last evening when the ex-Mayor of Mount Eden, Mr. J. L. A. Kayll, addressed the ratepayers. This meagre attendance was attributed to the fact that there had been some misunderstanding as to the place of meeting. ,x, _ Mr. T. Buchanan presided and the five members of the council who resigned with the Mayor occupied seats on the plat°Mr. .Kavll spoko on the lines of his recent public utterances , and repeated the statement that if any of the remaining councillors would resign ho. and his supporters would contest the election. He added that if they were given this opportunity to contest the vacant seats he and his followers would undoubtedly be returned. W- H. Nagle, until recently deputy-Mayor, urged the ratepayers, m the event of those who had already resigned contesting the election, to regard them as a party opposed to the sitting members. .. T m The C only other speaker was Mr. W. J. Hammill, who dealt principally with the No. 13 loan. ... . At the conclusion a motion in support, of the action of the retired members and calling on the sitting members to resign and allow the ratepayers to decide the issue was carried almost unanimously.
