By Telecranh—Press Association Copyright. A. arid N.Z. ' WASHINGTON. Sept. 2.
After conferring with President Coolidga, the Navy Department decided to order tho commander of the Asiatic fleet to hasten vessels to Yokohama for the relief of the earthquake sufferers. The United States Government has been unsuccessfully attempting in the last 24 hours to communicate the order to tho American Asiatic fleet. No fears are felt regarding the safety of the fleet, since it is believed that the vessels were outside the range of the upheaval, but it is thought that the earthquake caused atmospheric disturbances making wireless communication impossible. The Honolulu wireless station reports inability to communicate with Japan.
Tho American Red Cross has cabled to its Chinese. and Philippine stations to rush all available personnel and supplies to the stricken cities of Japan. Tho organisation has also communicated with the Japanese Government declaring itself ready to make whatever appropriation may be necessary to carry out relief work in memory of the Japanese Red Cross Society's expenditure of 100,000 dollars in relief after the San Francisco earthquake.
