■ -a. . - NEW SCHEME OPPOSED. A. ana N.Z. ADELAIDE. Aug. 27. The Premier of South Australia, Sir R. N Barwell, announced that the Commonwealth agreement for the joint collectintj of income tax was unacceptable, especially the request that the State take over all the Commonwealth officers engaged in taxation work, with pro rata dis- • missals in the event of retrenchment. The Premier added that the Common- ; wealth had 176 officers in South Australia dealing with 45,000 taxpayers, while the State has 52 for 85,000.
