QUESTION OF- ROADING.

The Avondale Borough Council met on Wednesday, the Mayor, Mr. W. J. Tait, presiding, There were also present, Messrs. A.: E.' Blackman, 0. E. Fearon, J. ;V. Riesterer, T. Wilson, A. iP. Haslam, H. Potter,: W. /J. ' Thompson, and J.'B.;Clarke. •. /,- j ;■"-:.• .;

Parr wrote, in connection with the' council's recent deputation to him regarding, the Government /advancing the money for drain age, that the Advances Office was only prepared to lend lup .to £5000 per , annum. . He recommended other sources of revenue being tried, ';.■■' ■y■ <■* , It was decided to reply to a correspondent that the board had no intention of reducing the minimum for building sites. Tbe huilding inspectorreported that six permits had been granted during the previous fortnight, and that ■ nine, houses •were in course of . erection. i '■A' scheme plan for a road through Mr., Tait's property in Great' North Road was received, and during consideration: Mr. Tart vacated the , chair, the DeputyMayor, Mr. J. B. Clarke, presiding. The plans provided for a 14ft. metalled road, but Mi*. Clarke expressed the opinion that [ new roads should .he metalled from kerb !to kerb.' Miv Wilson considered that i when the- borough was formed,, a proper specification of road requirements ';■ should i have been provided; It • was unforunak that Mr. Tait had acquired the property without having an idea that such stringent conditions would', be enforced. The matter was referred to the Works Committee, with power to act. The Mayor, and Messrs.
