THEFTS BY A YOUTH.
BOAT AND CAMERA MANIA. CONDITIONS OF PROBATION. An unusual condition, namely, that he should have nothing to do with boats or cameras, was incorporated -in the terms of probation granted a dark-haired youth named Ernest James Hannant, who was Drought before Mr. Justice Herdman for sentence in. the Supreme Court yesterday on chargeti of breaking, entering,, and theft, to which he;had pleaded guilty pa the Lower Court. ■ /' Mr. Meredith, for the Crown, said that the youth stole £329 in cheques and cash. The cheques were stopped, but with £35 | cash he bought a boat. The boat had | since been returned - and the money paia ! lor it recovered. Another sum of money stolen had !>een refunded by prisoner V parents. \ ; y His Honor, addressing prisoner, said he ought to send him to gaol, but could not oring himself to do so in the case of ' a lad such as prisoner was. How he ; cf.ihe to commit the offences His Honor could not understand. " You have been a wicked boy," said His Honor, "'stealing this money, but I propose to admit you to "probation." ' ', r The probation officer; said that prisoner seemed to have a mania for boats and cameras, and his father had expressed the wish that ho should be prevented from having anything to do with either. :i' His Honor admitted prisoner to three years, probation, with the special stipulation as to the two articles of temptation mentioned.
