ILL-LUCK OF THE GERANIUM. STRANGE STORY OF CURIO. A. and N.Z. 1 BRISBANE, July 28. On arrival of H.M.S.' Geranium, which went ashore in the Sir Edward ■ Pellew Islands, some . weeks ago. Commander Bennett stated the vessel was dogged by ill-luck after the officers had found a strangely shaped log lying in the bush on Turtle Island. The . log was painted red and yellow. It was hollow and plugged with human bones. Six aboriginals on board the Geranium became alarmed at sight of the log, muttering, " Debbil. debbil." After experiencing a', number of' mishaps it; was decided that the log was hoodoo, so it was sent ashore, after which a smooth trip was enjoyed.
