DAUGHTER OF '* RECORD MAKER. § The first national show and sale of Friesian and Jersey cattle, arranged by Wright, Stephenson and Company, Ltd., < was held on the Epsom Show Grounds on Friday. ;, There was a good attendance of breeders, and the sale was very successful. .Mr.'J. Donald, of Wanganui,.was judge in j the Friesian classes, and the Jerseys were judged by Mr % W. H. Booth. The two sales realised a, total of over £4000. j Mr. J. C. -Brood was auctioneer, Mr. C. E. Robertson being sales manager. , }y, .. The first award, in. the. Friesian class,; that for mature cows, went to Mr. F. : Smedky's ■ 12-year-old Queen Fayne Segis Galatea, which was sold for 150 guineas ( to the Piri Land Company, Waikato; The second prize cow (from i Taranaki) l was Mr. T. Henderson's Clover Pledge 2nd, which had just completed ', a butter-fat record cf 8061b. of fat. She realised 200 guineas, being purchased on behalf of Messrs. Henry Collins and Company, Ltd., South Australia. Tho largest class in the Friesian show was that for heifers under two years of age, and. the Palmers ton North breeder, Mr. H. R. Green, won all three places. These heifers realised the following prices? Two at 90 and 85 guineas to Mr. G. Yelchick, and one at 85 guineas to Mr, W. H. Maria, Mr. Maria was also the purchaser of the fourth prize heifer at 75 guineas. This was from Mr. J. Hart's Morrinsvillo stud. Another placed heifer was from Messrs. G. A. Marchant and Sons* stud in Taranaki, which sold to Messrs. C. H. and N, R. Silby for 80 guineas. The star attraction among the females was, however, the heifer calf from Mr. V. Marx's Taranaki stud. This calf is one of the twin daughters of his great cow, Alcartra Clothilde Pietje, which produced twin calves after making a world's record of 11451b. of- butter-fat. This heifer made the top price of the day, being knocked down to the Piri Land Company at 300 guineas. The prize Friesian bull was a calf bred by Mr. J. Hart, of Morrinsville, which was purchased for 70 guineas by Mr. C. N, Hamilton. The second prize-taker was a bull bred by Mr. T. H. Richards, of Taratahi, which was sold for 150 guineas, the top price for bulls. The Wright, Stephenson Challenge Cup (awarded to the grand champion animal of the show) went to Mr. J. Hart's winning bull calf, Mr. H. R. Green's heifer being second, and Mr. F. Smedley's cow third. In the -Jersey classes the first prize bull was Kiekie Major, , brought forward by Mr. R. L. Horn,, of Manawatu, the imported Jersey Island bull, shown by Mr. E, Griffith, of New Plymouth, being second.,.;Kukit. Major topped the Jersey price list at 270 guineas, the purchaser being Mr. A. E. Phillips, of Whangarei. Mr. Griffith's bull was;bought for 127 guineas by Messrs. Mears Bros., of Walton. Mr. A. In tV. Jersey cow class, Mr. W J. Hail, oil Matatoki, took first and second prizes, the winner selling for 80 guineas. The prize heifer, shown by Mr. H, Salway. of .Taranaki, was sold for 163 guineas to Messrs. B'orilston Bros., of Pukekohe. A line of heifers from the same stud made the good average of 104 -guineas. There was a keen contest' for the Grand Championship \ Cup) between the first prize heifer and ; the winning bull, the latter obtaining the verdict. , The second prize for heifers was awarded to Messrs. A. Banks and Sons' entry, -which sold for 100 guineas, and the third prize to Mr. H. H. Phillips' heifer.\ . # ,
